About Us

Our Vision: Stillpoint resources people in the Contemplative Christian Tradition as a path for deepening their union with and openness to God.

Stillpoint Spirituality is a Mission Centre of the Mission and Leadership Development ministry centre of the Uniting Church in South Australia. Stillpoint invites and encourages both groups and individuals to take ‘time out’ to pray, refresh, renew and discover more of the ‘life in all its fullness’ that Jesus offers. Stillpoint Spirituality includes Stillpoint Faith Community, which offers a regular contemplative worship experience.

As a part of the Mission and Leadership Development mission centre we at Stillpoint believe that engagement in mission brings with it the need to be deeply grounded in God, to take time to reflect on and learn from experience, to exercise discernment, and to listen deeply for the invitations of the Spirit. Stillpoint offers retreats, an annual program of events and opportunities, as well as leadership, resources and prayer support.

Stillpoint’s embrace is ecumenical and all are invited to participate in events from its program.

Stillpoint’s Core Values and Guiding Principles

Stillpoint draws together people who feel called to live out and uphold attention to the prayer, silence and discernment that are part of the “life in its fullness” to which Jesus Christ calls us. We seek to live out this calling with passion and gratitude, acknowledging that it is God’s work and that we may live in the freedom and joy of allowing God to shape it through us.

Two images are important to how we shape the various expressions of our life and ministry.

ReservoirThe first is that of a reservoir which draws deeply on Living Water and serves others out of a fullness of the life of the Spirit.

Staffa PilgrimsThe second is that of a pilgrim, travelling lightly and simply, and moving forward with faith and hope into the mystery of God’s future.

We seek to live out the hospitality that is at the heart of the Gospel. First, the hospitality with which God receives us. Secondly, the hospitality we extend to ourselves. And thirdly, the hospitality that welcomes others in a spirit of love, compassion, listening and service.

As we continue to discern and plan the various expressions of Stillpoint, we will allow the above statements to guide our overall planning and our day to day living.

Stillpoint Rule of Life

I, believing that I have been guided by the Holy Spirit

to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ more intently

through Companionship of the Stillpoint Community,

vow and declare to God and this Community

in the presence of the Church,

that I will endeavour to faithfully live

according to the Stillpoint Community’s Rule of Life,

to the degree my state of life allows.

Recognising that our relationship with God is foundational in our Christian journey and discipleship, I will seek ways to deepen my relationship with God by centring my life on God.

Recognising that love for one another is our primary witness to Jesus, and that in community we grow into our true selves, I will seek to develop healthy, caring and peaceful relationships growing in community with others.

Recognising that how we live in the world is a response of faithfulness to God and a responsibility to the earth and all its inhabitants, I will seek to advance the peace and justice of God’s Kingdom through compassionate action in the world.
